CITY OF PHOENIX 27TH AVENUE AND THOMAS ROAD BNSF RAILROAD CROSSING STREET IMPROVEMENTS
TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPGRADES | PAVEMENT RESTORATION | SIDEWALKS | CURB AND GUTTER | ADA RAMPS | RAILROAD CANTILEVERS
PROJECT OVERVIEW
YPMO was selected by the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department to provide public engagement for the 27th Avenue and Thomas Road BNSF Railroad Crossing Project, which included street improvements such as new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ramps, pavement restoration, traffic signal upgrades and installing new cantilevers and railroad gate arms to enhance the safety of the (BNSF) Railroad crossings at the intersection of 27th Avenue and Thomas Road. The project was constructed in 5 phases, each phase including sidewalk and lane closures to remove and replace existing sidewalk and ramps.
YPMO maintained a project information hotline and notified the area residents and businesses about the project and any updates, communicated frequently with the immediate businesses regarding waterline and valve replacement water shut offs that occurred as part of a separate project during this project to avoid disturbing the asphalt afterward, scheduled night work and temporary street closures. YPMO also coordinated with emergency services regarding the water shut offs and street closures.
Delays in the final phase led to re-notification and business coordination for asphalt seal coating, which required night work for a full street closure within the intersection.
