YPMO was awarded our first five-year on-call contract with the City of Peoria for public information and outreach services and was assigned our first project. Peoria’s Development and Engineering Department and its consultant, EPG, completed design plans for landscape enhancements along three major arterial corridors: 67th Avenue: Olive Avenue to Redfield Road (west side only); 75th Avenue: Grand Avenue to Thunderbird Road; and 91st Avenue: Mountain View Road to Grand Avenue. 

Prior to the start of construction, YPMO promoted an in-person public open house in December 2018, mailing a notice to 3,000 area residences and installing 8ft x 4ft construction signs along the three corridors. YPMO’s initial outreach included distributing notifications to businesses and HOAs to discuss the project. YPMO facilitated the Public Open House meeting at the City of Peoria’s conference room in December 2018.

Construction was originally planned to begin in January 2019, but was delayed due to the availability of materials. By spring 2019, work was indefinitely postponed and YPMO arranged for the signs to be removed and stored for several years.

In February 2021, construction resumed for the segment along 91st Avenue with OCM LLC, a contractor to the city. Although the landscaping was initially planned to end at Mountain View Road, the work was extended south to Olive Avenue. By the summer of 2021, the landscape enhancements in this corridor were complete.

Construction continued with BrightView from spring to summer 2022 for work on the west side of 67th Avenue. YPMO helped communicate traffic restrictions with the City of Glendale. The final corridor, 75th Avenue: Grand Avenue to Thunderbird Avenue, began in January 2023 and continued through the end of 2023.

YPMO prepared postcard mailers for each corridor, conducted business walks as construction was beginning, and coordinated with area Council Districts, HOAs, and schools to keep them informed of the project updates. We worked with Westside Signarama to reinstall the project signs for each location.

When YPMO was first awarded this project in 2018, we were just beginning our relationship with the City of Peoria. Since then, we have worked on over 30 projects and were recently awarded our second five-year on-call contract, allowing us to continue PIO services through 2028!
