T2050 2020 Arterial Crack Seal STREET TRANSPORTATION
Crack Seal | Paving | Pavement Treatment
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Communities deserve streets that are safe and durable, and minimally invasive and temporary repairs are prudent practices.
YPMO is on the City of Phoenix on-call list for public outreach, and this is part of a year-long street repair project. Part of the City’s Transportation 2050 Plan approved by voters, the Crack and Seal Program is to prevent cracks from becoming larger or continuing inward or downward to preserve the roadbed foundation. This temporary process holds the road together until a more extensive street maintenance treatment is needed.

THE CHALLENGE
Residents become concerned when construction impacts their homes and neighborhoods.
YPMO is an expert team that keeps residents informed of project progress. Even though construction flyers are well-written, clear, and bi-lingual, sometimes residents are still confused.
This project’s construction hotline had a number of calls from worried citizens who wanted to know what to do if they drove over the repairs and got material on their tires. “We let them know that they could drive about 40 miles an hour and the material would flake off,” says Garcia. “This took care of most of their concerns.” On a few occasions, the contractor stepped in and addressed concerns when residents complained about material spray after their cars had been detailed.
Most resident questions related to the schedule and when the contractor would be there. YPMO’s team patiently explained the schedule, and could direct residents to the City website.
